Baobae ("we," "us," or "our") is a personal relationship assistant that helps couples create less mental load and more quality time together. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights and choices.

1. Information we collect.
Information you provide directly•Phone number. We collect your phone number when you sign up. This is how Baobae reaches you — via SMS or iMessage.
•Relationship context. To give you relevant, timely nudges, we ask you to share information about your relationship: your partner's name, upcoming dates and anniversaries, shared interests, goals, and anything else you choose to tell us. This is the core of what makes Baobae useful.
•Partner's phone number. If you invite your partner to Baobae via an invite link, we collect their phone number when they accept and join. We send them messages only after they have accepted the invitation.
•Calendar data. With your permission, Baobae connects to your calendar to understand when you and your partner are free. We use this to suggest date ideas at times that actually work.
•Location and timezone. We use your approximate location and timezone to time messages appropriately and, if you choose, to suggest date ideas in your area.
•Usage data. We collect information about how you interact with Baobae — which nudges you act on, what you skip, how you respond — so we can improve over time.
2. How we use your information.
We use the information we collect to:
•Send you personalized nudges, reminders, and suggestions via SMS/iMessage
•Suggest date ideas based on your interests, availability, and location
•Surface timely conversation topics relevant to your relationship
•Improve the relevance and quality of Baobae's suggestions over time
•Communicate with you about your account and our service
•Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data to serve ads.
3. How we use AI.
Baobae is powered by artificial intelligence. Here's what that means for your data.
What the AI doesThe AI reads the relationship context you've shared — upcoming events, your interests, your partner's preferences, previous nudges — and uses it to generate personalized messages, conversation prompts, and date suggestions. It does not generate advice for medical, legal, financial, or mental health purposes.
Baobae is not a therapist, counselor, or mental health service.The AI is designed to help with logistics and prompts — not to provide clinical support. If you are experiencing relationship distress or mental health challenges, we encourage you to speak with a qualified professional.
AI providersWe use Anthropic to power Baobae's AI. Anthropic processes your data on our behalf and is contractually bound to keep it confidential. Anthropic does not use your data to train its models.
What the AI does not do•It does not have persistent memory outside of what you've explicitly shared with Baobae
•It does not monitor your private conversations or messages outside of Baobae
•It does not make decisions about your relationship — it surfaces prompts and ideas; you decide what to do with them
4. Sharing your information.
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:
•Service providers. We share data with third-party vendors who help us operate Baobae — including SMS delivery platforms, calendar integrations, AI providers, and hosting services. These parties process data only as directed by us.
•Your partner. When you add your partner to Baobae, certain messages and suggestions are shared with them by design. You control what relationship context you input.
•Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of Baobae or others.
•Business transfers. If Baobae is acquired or merged with another company, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We'll notify you before that happens.
5. Data retention.
We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it longer.
Calendar data is only accessed in real time to generate suggestions and is not stored beyond what's needed to deliver your messages.
6. Security.
We take security seriously. Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We limit access to your personal information to employees and contractors who need it to operate and improve the service.
No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you suspect your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.
7. Children's privacy.
Baobae is intended for adults aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected data from a minor, we will delete it promptly.
8. California privacy rights (CCPA).
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
•Right to know. You can request a copy of the personal information we've collected about you.
•Right to delete. You can request that we delete your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
•Right to correct. You can request that we correct inaccurate personal information.
•Right to opt out of sale. We do not sell personal information. This right does not apply.
•Right to non-discrimination. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

9. Your choices.
•Opt out of messages. Reply STOP to any Baobae message to stop receiving SMS communications.
•Delete your account. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time through the app or by contacting us.
•Revoke calendar access. You can revoke calendar permissions at any time through your device settings. This will limit Baobae's ability to suggest well-timed date ideas.
•Update your information. You can update the relationship context you've shared with Baobae at any time.
10. Changes to this policy.
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you by SMS or email before they take effect. Continued use of Baobae after that point means you accept the updated policy.
